Brooks-Jeffrey’s
Hill Attends Seminar on New Postal Rates
Phyllis
Hill, direct mail coordinator at Brooks-Jeffrey
Marketing in Mountain Home, took part in a recent
seminar concerning the new United States Postal
Service rate structure. The new rates went into
effect May 14.
“The Postal Service is moving from a weight-based
to a shape-based rate structure,” Mrs. Hill said, calling
it a “significant change in the way mail is processed.”
The seminar contained detailed explanations of the new rate
structure and was entitled “Shaping a More Efficient Future.”
The seminar was held at North Arkansas College, and was attended
by mail pre-sorters, such as Brooks-Jeffrey Marketing, as well
as nonprofit group representatives. She estimated that about 200
attended. |

Speakers included Cary Chism and Charletta
Williams from the Postal Business Center in Little Rock, with
John DeWitt, Harrison postmaster, answering questions from the
audience.
Mrs. Hill said the new U.S. Postal
Service rates encourage mailers to conform to specifications
for automation processing by the USPS. “We do many
mailings that qualify for automation which allows
for the most discounts,” Mrs. Hill explained. “We’ve
mailed as few as 500 pieces to as many as 1,000,000
pieces in a year for BJM customers.” Mrs. Hill said
Brooks-Jefffrey Marketing uses U.S. Postal Service
approved software. The software validates addresses
to USPS format, pre sorts the mailing, and generates
a delivery point bar code for the mail piece, which
is required for automation discounted mailings.
